Citizenship of Lithuania

All applications regarding the citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania and notifications on the acquisition of citizenship of another state can only be submitted to Migration Department  through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS) at the address www.migracija.lt (all browsers except Internet Explorer).  

Migration Department will not carry out the preliminary evaluation of the documents and you can immediately book an appointment at the Embassy for the presentation of the original documents, if you are submitting:

  • an application for citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania for a child, born until 1 April, 2011;
  • notification of the acquisition of the citizenship of another state;
  • an application for renunciation of citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania.

Please note that in the cases mentioned above the original documents must be presented at the Embassy within 4 months from the date of uploading the documents to the MIGRIS system.

Preliminary assessment must be completed by Migration Department if you are applying via MIGRIS for: 

  • reinstatement of citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania; 
  • simplified procedure for granting citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania;
  • restoration of the citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania (a person who acquired the citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania at birth or to whom the citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania was reinstated or granted by simplified procedure and who subsequently lost it); 
  • taking an oath of allegiance to the Republic of Lithuania;
  • a certificate of the right to restore citizenship or an application for the issue or amendment of a certificate of Lithuanian origin.

In the cases above the citizenship application procedure involves the following steps:

  1. Submit your application and all supporting documents on-line via your account on MIGRIS.
  2. Receive the confirmation (via MIGRIS) that documents have been pre-checked and preliminary assessment has been completed by the Migration Department.
  3. Within 4 months book an appointment at the Embassy via KONSREG electronic registration system https://keliauk.urm.lt/en/consult_registration and come in person to present the original documents at the Embassy and pay the consular fee.
  4.  Receive a decision by Migration Department regarding your application via MIGRIS.
