The Very First Baltic Day Festival in Dublin
On Sunday, 3rd of July the first event of its kind, the Baltic Day festival, took place at Farmleigh estate in Dublin where the official Irish State guest house is located. During the festival, folk music and dances, traditional crafts and cuisine as well as tourism opportunities in the Baltic States have been presented. Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians from all over Ireland shared their national cultural heritage with the country they now call home.
Baltic Day festival has been initiated by the diplomatic missions of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia residing in Dublin. The success of the event encouraged the Ambassadors to consider the Baltic Day festival as annual tradition in the future. The Lithuanian Ambassador in Ireland, Mrs. Rasa Adomaitienė, celebrated the fact that this festival was not the first project Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian embassies and communities collaborated on. The commemoration of the Baltic Way and the Baltic art exhibition were other joint projects.
Lithuania was represented by a Lithuanian folk dance group from Northern Ireland “Spiečius” (“The Hive”) and music group “Baltos varnos” (“White Crows”) visiting from Lithuania.
