The President presented letters of credence to Lithuania’s ambassador to Ireland
President Gitanas Nausėda presented letters of credence via video conference to Marijus Gudynas, Ambassador of Lithuania to the Republic of Ireland.
The President and the newly appointed Ambassador discussed the foreign policy priorities focusing on strengthening bilateral partnership, cooperation on international issues, challenges posed by the Brexit as well as more active engagement of Ireland in the Eastern Partnership countries by implementing joint EU projects aimed at development cooperation.
Strengthening of economic ties between Lithuania and Ireland was also addressed during the coversation. The President encouraged the Ambassador to concentrate on inbound tourism, development of exports, maintaining and attracting investment from Irish companies as well as collaboration in research and technology.
President Nausėda highlighted that it was important to implement active diaspora policy to boost the initiatives aimed at maintaining the Lithuanian spirit, bringing the community together and promoting mutual assistance, and stimulate relations between the diaspora and Lithuania as well as promote active engagement of Lithuanian diaspora in Ireland in development of modern state of Lithuania and facilitate their return to Lithuania.
