THE PRESIDENT DALIA GRYBAUSKAITĖ CONGRATULATED HER IRISH COUNTERPART ON ST. PATRICK‘S DAY
Thursday, March 17, Vilnius - President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite sent congratulations on behalf of herself and the people of Lithuania to Mary McAleese, President of Ireland, on Ireland's national holiday, Saint Patrick's Day.
"Even though Ireland and Lithuania are located in different parts of Europe, our two countries and their people share many common bonds. Historical, cultural, value-based, and even demographic similarities encourage us to work and cooperate both bilaterally and at the European level. On Saint Patrick's Day - which is ever more widely celebrated in Lithuania as well - I would like to express my delight that the ties between our nations are growing stronger and closer. The large Lithuanian community in Ireland has contributed in a significant way to the strengthening of our bilateral relationship, but no less important is the mutual interest and effort to search for common solutions to today's international political and economic issues. I strongly believe that the open and honest dialogue between Lithuania and Ireland will further the well-being of our citizens and their prosperity," the President wrote in the letter of congratulations.
