The Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania was celebrated in Dublin

The week of commemoration of the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania in Ireland was festive, solemn and special. Early in the morning of February 15, on the occasion of the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania, during the meeting of the Irish Senate, the President of the Senate Jerris Buttimer officially congratulated our country, wishing Lithuania many years of existence and prosperity.

In the afternoon of the same day, a solemn reception was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania, which was attended by Irish politicians, representatives of state institutions, public figures, diplomats residing in Dublin, who sincerely congratulated Lithuania celebrating its 106th anniversary of independence.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, Marijus Gudynas, reminded of the history of European and Lithuanian wars and occupations of recent centuries, the importance of February 16. "This date is a testimony to us and future generations of the indestructible life of our nation and the spirit of freedom written in our genes, but at the same time it forces us to realize the threats around us, to take responsibility for the often difficult decisions that we must make in order to prevent the tragic history of Lithuania, Ireland, Europe and the world. the pages would never repeat themselves. Today, it is especially important to significantly strengthen the support provided to Ukraine and to punish and deter the aggressor much more," the ambassador said.

Lithuania was also congratulated by the member of the Irish Parliament, the chairman of the Irish-Lithuanian inter-parliamentary friendship group, Cormac Devlin, and the Ukrainian ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Song Festival this year, guests were presented with the Lithuanian folk instrument - kankles. Folk melodies were performed on this instrument by Vėtra Trinkūnaitė, an artist living in Ireland.
