On 6th of July, the whole Ireland was singing national anthem of Lithuania
Lithuanian diaspora in Ireland together with Irish friends, county councils members commemorated Lithuanian Statehood Day on 6th of July. People in the whole Ireland banded together to sing Tautiška giesmė (National anthem of Lithuania) to pay tribute to Lithuania. The melody of a national song was widely spread around Dublin, Dundalk, Galway, Carrickmacross, Carlow, Cavan, Killarney, Cork, Monaghan, Limerick, Laois, Mullingar, Tullamore, Ballinrobe. Ireland was honoured as well as the melody of Irish national anthem followed.
‘Lithuanian community in Ireland is widely scattered all over the island; yet, Lithuanians got closer to Lithuania on 6th of July with their minds and the national song. Lithuania, we do remember you!’ Dubliner Audrius Gelčys shared his emotions on Facebook.
On the same occasion, Monaghan had a visit from delegation of Alytus, led by city’s administration deputy director Vilija Ramanauskienė. Both cities and their residents were connected by telecommunication in order to commemorate the meaningful day together. As the director of Saint Benedict Gymnasium of Alytus was present in Monaghan, she signed an agreement with representatives of Lithuanian school in Monaghan named Lietuvos vaikai, with an intention to promote cooperation between two schools.
