Fly Mayo 2015
On September 25-27th exceptional celebration will take place in Ballinrobe Co. Mayo to mark the 80th anniversary of Feliksas Waitkus transatlantic flight. The event is under the patronage of Her Excellency President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.
Feliksas Waitkus distinguished son of Lithuanian nation and the officer of US Air Force was the only one who crossed Atlantic by plane in 1935, and was only the sixth who made it in one seated plane.
Lithuanian’s International Heraldry Foundation is donating astonishing monument, opening of which will be the core event of this year celebration. Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mantvydas Bekešius and journalist and historian Gražina Sviderskytė are distinguished guests of the opening ceremony. Festival’s programme will include concert of the choir Jauna Muzika, folklore group Ratilai and other Irish and Lithuanian performers.
Festival is jointly organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ireland, Lithuanian’s International Heraldry Foundation, Lithuanian community in Ireland and Mayo County Council.
