Baltic Film Festival held for the first time in Ireland
On 19-20 April, the Baltic Film Festival was held in Cork, Ireland's second largest city, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lithuania,Estonia and Latvia's membership of the European Union and NATO.
Lithuania presented the documentary-feature film "Kissing, Juozas", directed by Agnė Zalanskaite, at this festival. This is a film about the heroic life and love of Juozas Vitkus-Kazimieraitis, a high-ranking lithuanian officer who joined the partisan movement during the Second World War and chose the struggle for the country's freedom, rather than a comfortable life abroad.
Latvia presented at the festival the artistic film "Soviet Milk“, based on the novel by the famous Latvian writer Nora Ikstena.
In addition to the three Baltic film screenings, the festival's program included meetings with creators and discussions. This year, a meeting was held with the Estonian director Hardi Volmer, who presented the feature film „Living Images“ at the festival.
The Baltic Film Festival was organized by the Embassies of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia in Ireland. It is planned that this film event will be continuous and will take place in the city of Cork, which is famous for its festivals.
