On 14 June - The Day of Mourning and Hope - the Embassy of Lithuania to Ireland for the first time has joined the Commemoration of the deported people by Soviets in 1941, event, organized by the project “Misija Sibiras”.
At the late Monday night 20 Lithuanians, living in Ireland, have participated in the Readings event, held at the Embassy yard, and announced 750 deported Lithuanians names, surnames and fates. During the event the Embassy building was lit with historic scenes of mass deportation.
The Freedom way to commemorate the 31 anniversary of the Baltic way and support the Belarusians in their way to freedom and democracy took place on 23 August next to the House of the Irish Parliament. The event was organised by the Lithuanian Association in Ireland and gathered the members from the Lithuanian, Belarusian and Ukrainian communities in Ireland. Due to epidemiological situation and restrictions in Ireland not everybody could participate, yet people were actively supporting it and organising smaller gatherings in their towns or villages, home or public spaces. We strongly hope that this event and the aspiration for democracy, freedom and respect will strengthen the Belarusians community and the relations with the Lithuanian community in Ireland as well.
