Lithuanian passport and ID

Passport or identity card (ID) of the Republic of Lithuania are documents issued to citizens of the Republic of Lithuania, confirming personal identity and are valid for traveling abroad.

Passports of the Republic of Lithuania are valid for 10 years from the date of issue for adult citizens and for individuals over 16 years, for 5 years for children between 5 and 16 years of age and for 2 years for children below the age of 5 years.

IDs are valid for 20 years from the date of issue for citizens over 75 years, for 10 years for citizens from 16 to 75 years, for 5 years for children from 5 to 16 years, for 2 years for children below the age of 5 years.

Passports issued before 2 January 2008 will remain valid until their date of expiry.

Where and how to apply for the passport or ID of the Republic of Lithuania?

  • Citizens of the Republic of Lithuania residing in Lithuania for the issuance / replacement of the passport or ID should apply to any migration section of the local police office in the Republic of Lithuania.
  • Citizens of the Republic of Lithuania residing abroad for the issuance / replacement of passport or ID should apply: 
    • To any diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Lithuania; 
    • To any migration section of the local police offices in the Republic of Lithuania.

IMPORTANT:

Citizen of the Republic of Lithuania for the issuance/replacement of the passport or ID at diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Lithuania or at the migration sections of the local police office in Lithuania must apply personally. Individuals under 16 years of age must be accompanied by one of the parents or legal guardian. If the parents of the person under 16 are divorced the application documents for the issuance of the passport or ID can be delivered by the parent with whom child resides under the decision of Court or under the mutual agreement of parents, or by another parent if he has the signed and notarised permission note.

Diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Lithuania can issue/replace passport and ID within two months after individual residing abroad personally submits the application at the diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Lithuania of his/her choice.

For the issuance / replacement of the passport and ID at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland citizens of the Republic of Lithuania have to register for consular reception ONLINE (if you have any queries please contact us by phone +353 1 203 5757 any working day from to 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. or by email: [email protected])

Consular reception at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland for the passport or ID issuance/replacement takes place during working days from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The citizen of the Republic of Lithuania, who lost his / her passport or identity card, has an expired travel document or has no valid travel document; in order to return to Lithuania urgently should apply for a temporary travel document – repatriation certificate at any diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Lithuania.

Consular fees for the issuance/replacement of the passport or ID at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland:

  • For the issuance/replacement of passport or ID – 100 EUR;
  • For the issuance/replacement of passport or ID to individuals under 18 years of age – 50 EUR;

IMPORTANT:

If at the date of application the person who is under 18 years already has other valid personal identity document, which was issued for a reduced consular fee the consular fee for a new document will be 100 EUR.

Consular fee must be paid only in cash at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland.

Collection of a passport or ID at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland

  • Citizens over 18 years of age must come personally during the consular reception hours any working day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to collect his/her new passport or ID. Individual who is collecting his/her new Lithuanian passport or ID must bring his/her old Lithuanian passport or ID to the Embassy for marking the old passport or ID as an invalid document. Individuals from 16 to 18 years of age have an option to collect their passports or IDs personally or it could be collected by one of their parents or legal guardians.

    If the person wants that his passport or ID is collected by another person he should deliver a signed permission note during the delivery of application documents where he indicates the name and surname, personal number and date of birth of that person.
     
  • New passports or ID of individuals under age of 16 must be collected by one of their parents or legal guardians who must present his / her own passport or ID card and his/her child’s old passport or ID for marking the old passport or ID as an invalid document.
  • In order to receive the new Lithuanian passport or ID by mail, individual or his/her parents or legal guardians must fill out appropriate form while submitting documents for the issuance/replacement of the passport or ID at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland and provide envelope with the stamp on it from the official Ireland’s post office – An Post. There should be passport or ID recipient address written on the envelope. Please enquire the An Post site on rates and charges of registered mail.
